Different Can be a Blessing in Disguise

By: Chloe Pryor (12), March 11, 2021

Our volleyball season started in late summer and because of the restrictions, all we could do was condition. Later in the season, we got approval to start playing with balls  Due to Covid-19 the Rock Academy Volleyball season looked a lot different this year than it did in the past years. Since CIF has placed rules and restrictions that we needed to follow, we lost the ability to play games against other schools, indoor practices and during the first half of our season we couldn’t play with volleyballs. As most of us players on the team have ultimately lost a big chunk of their season, we have found the joys and blessings within this tough time.

White and Brown Boat

As I reflect on my childhood, a lot comes to mind. I grew up in Bay Park, San Diego. We were in the middle of everything, whether it be the beach, downtown, or the Harbor. Because of this, our family became involved in many organizations and activities. We had so much fun. I met a lot of new people and other families as result. One thing my family got involved in was the San Diego Yacht Club. Now this is where the story begins…

My name is Stephen, a Chinese international student. I have studied at the Rock Academy for about four years already, and this year is my junior year. Recognizing Taylor Harris

By: Richard HuntSeptember 18, 2020

“This year, the annual See You At the Pole (SYATP) faith event celebrates its 30th anniversary. SYATP is a special time where students circle the flagpole at their school and honor God in prayer.”

“And for 13-year-old Taylor Harris the event will be super special. A project envisioned and eventually funded by Taylor herself will be dedicated at her school, Rock Academy in San Diego. Two years back, Taylor noticed, “We pledge to the flag each morning, but there wasn’t a flagpole.” Taylor felt led to donate a permanent flagpole and flag to her school. And she did it!” …

Cobra Kai Review

By: Gavin BeamSeptember 16, 2020

Imagine, you’re a kid in 1984. A trailer for a rather “tubular” looking movie is dropped in theaters. You try to look like smooth butter as you witness a high schooler being trained by an old man in an upcoming movie and you casually ask your parents for some moolah to catch that sweet looking flick in theaters. As you sit down ready to watch this absolute banger, your friend says to his girl to “not have a cow” as she complains that this movie isn’t “choice.” After the movie, you believe that you could one day see a “rad” TV series to that gnarly movie. Fast forward to the year 2020, you’re an adult now that just saw the trailer. You drop the tough act in front of your children as that nostalgic feeling fills you once again as the story of legends continues with “Cobra Kai” on Netflix…

“Avatar”-The Last Airbender: Reviews and Opinions

By: Gavin BeamSeptember 22, 2020

Ah yes, the world of people that can bend the main elements of the world. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that fantastic world? This series is centered around the journey of 12-year-old Aang, the current Avatar and last survivor of his nation, the Air Nomads. Hang, along with his friends Sokka, Katara, and later Toph, strive to end the Fire Nation’s oppression against the other nations of the world. I searched for some people who found the show rather appealing or, as many put it, “their favorite childhood show.” The ones interviewed for this article are the lovable, yet strong willed, Abby Kim and the equally lovable, yet firm Wyatt Cooper…

As we all know, the coronavirus has done a number on our country. Almost every aspect of our lives are being altered to better form to what is happening around us. Sports are being postponed. School, jobs, and more are being done from home instead of in person. While all this may be frustrating, it has not completely stopped some groups from doing what they love…

The Umbrella Academy is a superhero tv series that originates as a comic book series. It revolves around a family of estranged children who reunite to solve a mystery surrounding their father’s death, while also protect the world from ending in the process  The story began on October 1, 1989…

“There is so much more I wish I could tell you right now about just how good The Umbrella Academy Season 2 is over the course of its 10 new episodes. There is so much to touch on, including the incredible needle drops, the costume design, the rip-roaring banter between seven siblings trying to save the world from an apocalyptic event (again), the surprise plot twists which will have you flipping out or inconsolable, or just how good it feels to have a show firing on all cylinders as it welcomes you into its wild and weird world with open arms.”
