I had the opportunity to interview the new teacher in charge of ESP, Kelly Welsh. Here are some of the questions I asked and the answers she gave:
Q: What are three words that describe you?
A: Passionate, discerning, and impulsive
Q: Do you have any funny class moments?
A: Funny class moments? I can’t spell and I’m really bad at math, so kids are always laughing at my errors.
Q:What made you take the path your career took you?
A: I had always wanted to be a school counselor but I found in SD City schools your hands were tied in the amount of help you were able to offer and you could not talk about the hope that lies within you. Jesus.
Q: How has your faith impacted your life?
A: My faith has given me direction and purpose but it has also saved me from the worst of my Simon Peter tendencies. Helping my husband fight cancer for 15 years caused me to lean hard on my faith. I understand His peace beyond comprehension. I have rested in that peace. Felt it in my bones.
Q: How did God lead you to come to this school?
A:I feel that everything in my past prepared me for what God had instored for my next steps. God was refining me and continues to do so. He was sanding off my rough edges so that I would be gentler and more tenderhearted.
